Why is it called Maho Noir?
The title is a layered one. Noir means black, evoking not only the shadowy aesthetic of classic detective fiction but also the tone– moody, morally gray, and grim. Maho is often used to describe forbidden or corrupting sorcery. Together, the title literally means “black magic” while also reflecting the comic’s noir-inspired tone and supernatural themes.
What is Maho Noir?
Maho Noir is a supernatural noir comic following private investigator Kimura Ran as she works cases in a city where magic, crime, and desperation often overlap. Missing persons, occult mysteries, and violent nights are all part of the job– assuming the job doesn’t kill her first. Expect necromancers, inquisitors, blackmail, strange artifacts, and the occasional undead punch-up.
