Panel one is probably one of my favorite Ran faces to date.
After everything... blood loss, interrogation, infection scratching at the door-- Ran gets up.
This page is quiet, but not calm. The threat outside hasn’t gone away. The outbreak hasn’t been contained. But in this moment, there’s a beat of clarity: weapons passed, roles reestablished, momentum regained.
Ran returns a sidearm without ceremony. It’s a small act, but it speaks volumes-- she’s still thinking, still contributing, still herself. ‘Zug takes it without question. There’s no need to ask if she’s okay. No one in this room is.
And then comes the line: “Someone find me my pants.” A little levity in a hospital gown. It’s not about modesty-- it’s about motion. If she’s asking for clothes, she’s planning to move.
Chapter 2 doesn’t end with a scream or a speech. It ends with readiness. Whatever’s coming, Ran’s not lying down for it.
Chapter 3 begins soon.
